Educated by Tara Westover

Educated by Tara Westover was a powerful memoir.  I don't know if it was because I went to a religious college and was exposed to people from extreme backgrounds, or the fact that I am an educator, or if it is because I am nearly the exact same age as the author, but this novel spoke to me. I typically don't read a lot of nonfiction because for me it is a slower read but this was worth the time.

This memoir is the story of Tara Westover and her experience growing up in Idaho.  She lived a unique life with her extremest, Mormon parents. She didn't go to the doctor, didn't know her own birthday, always had a "head for the hills" bag ready, and didn't set foot in a classroom until she was 17 years old. All of these things would have held a lot of people back but Tara used them as stepping stones to her PhD.

This is a powerful book that I recommend to EVERYONE!  Go and get this book!
